On January 12th, I will begin my two day journey to Moshi, Tanzania all by my lonesome. From Des Moines, to Chicago, a long layover in Boston, a jump across the ocean to Amsterdam, and then finally to the Kilimanjaro Airport. After a weekend of settling in, I will start my student teaching experience on Monday morning teaching 8th graders about agriculture. Not only is this my first big job (minus the perk of an income), but I will be completing it in a foreign land among new people. Did I mention I was teaching at an International school among 30 different nationalities with Mt. Kilimanjaro in my backyard and the Serengeti not too far? I've seen pictures; it's not too shabby.
I'm excited and nervous about all of the adventures ahead. I can't even explain the emotions running through my head at the moment. Packing and preparing for the classroom while preparing to say goodbye to 8 weeks is taking over. I am unaware of the adventures I will have in and out of the classroom while I am in Tanzania, but I know they will be well worth it. Here goes...
